Moroccan rugs have special powers. Woven by the indigenous Berber people for thousands of years., they possess not only a functional purpose of warmth for their homes, but offer a shield from harm. The loom represents a magical protection while the sheep’s wool is viewed as a symbol of luck; the knock of the hammer combs ward off the evil eye while the weaver herself is on the lookout that evil does not enter between the threads. The women who weave these beautiful rugs have no artistic training as the artform is passed down through generations. Similarly, the extensive symbolism used in each piece represents the family lineage and story. We are fortunate to be able to adorn our homes with these time enduring works of art.
